The Lawmaker representing Ohafia North State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Mandela Egwuronu Obasi, on Friday distributed some relief materials to the people of his constituency to help cushion the effects of the lockdown in the state as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Mandela who gave out the relief materials through the Traditional Rulers of Abiriba and Nkporo which are the two communities that make up his constituency admonished the people to adhere strictly to all the directives on the prevention and control of the virus given by the State government.

He used the event which took place at the palace of the Enachioken of Abiriba to sensitize the people and emphasize that regular washing of hands, use of alcohol based hand sanitizer and staying at home as directed by the government are the best way to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The Items distributed included 30 bags of 50kg rice, 300 bottles of 60ml alcohol based hand sanitizer and cash of Five hundred thousand naira(N500,000.00) to be shared among the two communities.
Also, Two hundred thousand naira (N200,000.00) which he personally went round the eighteen communities in Abiriba to share to selected indigent women at their various compounds.

Mandela stated that he choose to distribute the items through the Traditional rulers so as to maintain the practice of social distancing which is a viable way of curbing the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus and avoid bringing people out from their home at this challenging time. He charged the Traditional rulers to ensure that the items get to as many indigent and needy persons in their various communities.

Responding, the Enachioken of Abiriba, HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu who is also the Deputy Chairman Abia State council of Traditional rulers, extolled the lawmaker who he described as a man who is in touch with his people and realities on ground and philanthropic. The traditional ruler later offered royal blessings and prayed God to bless and replenish his pocket.

In their separate responses, HRH Eze Eme Uguru Ikpoka the Ukpaghari of Amogudu, HRM Eze U. I. Eme, the Egwugwo of Amodu Autonomous community Nkporo and HRH Eze U.O. Agbaeze,Otam of Amurie Autonomous community,
thanked the lawmaker for once again remembering his people at a time like this just as he has always done over the years even before being elected as a member of the State House of Assembly.

Others present at the small event are HRH Eze Benjamin Agwu, the Efa of Agboji community Abiriba, Eze Innocent Otisi, Ikuku Ejirie of Ogwofia Autonomous Community, Eze Patric Ogbuagu,Ezeaja of Nkporo, Eze Innocent Mbah, Okwo of Etitiama Nkporo, Eze Ojukwu Imo Kalu,the Achi of Achi Aliobi, Agbaja Nkporo and other cabinet members of Enachioken in council.
