…Charges political leaders and office holders on action plan.

The Inspector General of police IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has been commended for Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) Intiative which he flagged off nationally in Enugu on 29th August, 2019 and Nationally launched on 12th march, 2020 in Abuja.

The commendation came from the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Enugu state chapter, comrade Virgillus Nwobodo when he paid a courtesy visit on the National Coordinator of POCACOV CSP Ebere Amaraizu on 10th of April, at the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre in Enugu.

According to the Labour chief; “Through the POCACOV initiative which is youth based, community driven and involving different stakeholders in line with the principles of community oriented policing, the Inspector General of Police has demonstrated his love for the youths and the knowledge that most of the Nigerian youths in cultism and other vices happens to be victim of circumstances as there were no platform put in place to explain consequencies of cultism and other vices in order to prevent them from joining as well as rescuing those that have joined from the claws of cultism and other vices.

He also charged the political class and office holders, corporate organizations amongst others to “always show empathy on the plights of the youth development in Nigeria with emphasis on strong and sincere action plan on children and youth centres which will serve as a veritable ground to prepare youths on how to channel their talents and energies to positivism, engage their minds and make them to become assets and better citizens of the country.

Children and youth centres will no doubt serve as a platform for inculcating values, morals and cultures that will make them better citizens and mastery of activities such as science, sports, technology,dangers inherent in cultism and other vices and make them good citizens.”

“This will also help to reduce the activities of social miscreants.”

Going further, Comrade Nwobodo advised the youths n”to always be law abiding and adhere to various safety precautionary measures by the Government and the National Centre for Disease Control that are aimed at containing the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

He assured that Nigeria Labour Congress will always partner with POCACOV to achieve on its mandate.

Responding, the National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu thanked the labour leader on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, informed him on the activities of POCACOV and the four thematic area of coverage of POCACOV which is centered on Awareness creation, sensitizations, Re-orientation, Consultations, Youth mobilization using community oriented approaches for a safe and secured environment in line with SECURITY AS A KEY POINT UNDER THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS(SDGS).
