There was excitement and jubilation in Nkanu East State Constituency as Member representing the area at the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Paul Nnajiofor doled out palliatives to his constituents.

The beneficiaries where drawn from the four development centres in Nkanu East local government area.

Items distributed included; bags of rice, cartons of noodles as well as hand sanitisers and presentation of cash worth more than #250,000.00.

Speaking while flagging off the distribution exercise, Nnajiofor said the distribution of the food items to his constituents was part of his efforts to alleviate the plight of his people during the COVID-19 lockdown and restriction of movement and other measures put in place to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease in the state

“Together with my team, we have been on this. We have been on this project since 25th march 2020 trying to help the poor. The essence of blessing that God has blessed with is to bless others. I am reaching to the people base on the resources available to me.”

He stated that the gesture was to complement Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s humanitarian work in Enugu State.

Nnajiofor said he has given over 200 families in the constituency money, food, hand sanitisers, among other palliatives.

He said, “We are happy that we are supporting our Governor Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in his humanitarian work trying to reach out to the poor.

“Today we are trying to reach out the four development centres in Nkanu East using about 215 households as direct beneficiaries to cushion the effect of the lockdown and sit at home.

“We have covered more than 200 households with money, food items, sanitisers and other things”.

The lawmaker who commended his constituents for keeping with recommended social distancing protocols and other measures to fight the virus charged them to continue to support the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Speaking on the Covid 19 outreach by the lawmaker, a Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Monday Okoh, described the gesture as unprecedented in the history of the area.

He urged those in better positions to emulate Hon. Paul Nnajiofor by remembering the less privileged ones around them.

“The gesture is first of its kind in Nkanu East. We want to encourage those who are in position to remember the less privileged to rise up and help the poor”.

On efforts of the church on the campaign against the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic, the Cleric said, “we have been lecturing and telling our members to maintain social distancing, hygiene, clean environment. They should avoid embracing and handshaking.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked God for using their representative, Hon. Nnajiofor for putting smiles on their faces during these trying times and prayed God to continue to bless him.
