Fidelity Advert

The Enugu State neighborhood watch instituted by Enugu State government under His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has arrested one Ibrahim Musa; a herder who is notorious for stealing cows belonging to his fellow herders and in turn, accuse the locals as the ones stealing their cows in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state.

The alleged rustler was arrested on the 5th of June after he stole one of the cows belonging to his brother and subsequently sold it to meat sellers in the area.

Speaking to Journalist101, the suspect said he sold the cow which he said belong to his father (a claim we later discovered to be a lie) because the cow was sick. He also disclosed that he sold the cow at the cost of 28,000.

In his words, the suspect who spoke to our correspondent in pigin English said “i stole the cow to sell because the cow was sick.” Asked when he began to steal cow, Ibrahim said; “I have been stealing since 2015.”

The owner of the cow who gave his name as Baluwa speaking in pigin also, said, he (Ibrahim) “Stole my cow 2 days ago and when we asked him after we discovered the cow was missing, he said the cow wasn’t feeling too well and that was why he sold it after killing and butchering it.

“But that isn’t true because we later discovered that he brought the buyers to where the cows were camped and presented himself as the owner, after they failed to agree on price, those people left and he (Ibrahim) followed them and pleaded with them to buy the cow.”

Baluwa said ibrahim is his first cousin and this should be the second time he’s stealing our own cow after we forgave him the first time and he’s responsible for most cow rustling in the area.

Explaining how the rustler was apprehended after he ran away from his brothers, the head of Uzo=Uwani vigilante, Barr. Ezugwu Chijioke told our correspondent that they learnt of the theft at Umuanogu village in Uzo-Uwani LGA and followed up the matter immediately.

“Our preliminary investigation led us to the people that bought the cow from and also gathered that they have not finished paying him and it was at that point we laid ambush on him and apprehended him,” Barr. Ezugwu said.

The Security boss in the area said this is one of many cases of cow rustling not involving the locals in the area and thanked the Governor for giving them all the necessary support needed in doing the job they do in the area.
