Sports have been identified as a veritable tool not only for unification but that which can help in setting of minds free.
This was disclosed by the National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) CSP Ebere Amaraizu, who said the assertion is supported by the survey that is being conducted by the IGP MA Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu on how Sports Could be used to eliminate the issue of Sexual and Gender Based Violence and restore confidence to young girls as well as connection to community which are factors that reduce risk for sexual and domestic violence.
According to Amaraizu; “A world free of gender based violence would recognize value and lift up all the various talents that our young girls may be having and capable of bringing in spirit of team work at work place and in the society.
“Sports empowers young leaders, it is also a transformative tool as well as platform for awareness creation. It builds partnership for the good of the community and society at large.
“In view of the above, the importance of Sports at countering narratives of Sexual and Gender Based Violence cannot be overemphasized as an idle mind they say, is the devils workshop.
“In the light of this, POCACOV recommend that various states youth and sports ministries in partnership with NCDC, Health Ministries and other relevant bodies, work out safety precautionary measures and guidelines as well protocols that will facilitate Sporting activities aimed at continuous engagement of our children and youths in various stadium and training centres,” Amaraizu said.
