Fidelity Advert
Engr. Greg Nnaji

Following the defamatory social media attacks on the progressive Government of Enugu State divinely led by His Excellency Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Hon Engr Greg Nnaji by some critics over the Abakpa-Emene-link road Wash-Out as a result of flood scour-out, the National President of Nkanu Youth Council worldwide Rt Comr Monday Diamond Ani (Odoziobodo) has advised the critics to be more constructive than destructive.

The multi-talented Youth Leader who is also the Chairman NANS Presidential Special Taskforce on Covid-19 Enugu State, Corporate MC, Investigative and interpretative journalist and Brand Ambassador in a terse statement made available to newsmen, said that the blames and social media attacks on the Enugu State Commissioner for Works Engr Greg Nnaji is unwarranted.

According to him, a world-class professional engineer with an engineering highest echelon prestigious Award of FELLOW OF NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS, spanning through 33 years experience in Civil/Structural Engineering consultancy & Construction czar with specialization in Structural Designs and Basic infrastructure and has worked with several STATE Governments, Private developers and even at strategic formations of the Nigeria Airforce & Navy which include Aerodrome facilities for decades deserves commendation not condemnation.

“While I commend His Excellency the Executive Governor of Enugu State Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the famous PROJECT 2020 initiative which is rapidly transforming Enugu State positively especially on the Urban Road Construction and Maintenance, I wish to advise the critics of the Hon Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Engr Greg Nnaji to make proper investigation on the roles of the Contractor that was supposed to consolidate on the contractual principles of Re-ordered Supervision Procedure which emphasizes on the Quality Control and Quality Assurance

“People should understand that Defect Liability Period is inevitable in a road contractual term, this simply means that a Contractor is expected to maintain a Road Constructed from Road defect through Quality Control and Quality Assurance for a period of one year, while a certain sum of the contractor’s money is held until this one year period.

“On the basis of this clause, the Contractor is expected to have an In-house Quality Control and Quality assurance and this is what differentiate Local and Foreign Contractors.

“Contractors should test their works, they should take the responsibility of their actions and inaction.

“Therefore, they should be advised to take necessary measures to avoid Road Wash-Out or Defects not unnecessarily attacking the Commissioner for Works, nor the State Government.

“Supervision and quality control is not the sole function of the Commissioner for Works.
Eventhough the Works Commissioner has been diligently functioning since 2017 without blemishes.

“Hon Greg Nnaji is a square peg in a square hole,he was the No 1 on the list of the first 8 Commissioners appointed by His Excellency in 2019, so his appointment was based purely on meticulous merit, and he was amongst the 3 Commissioners that His Excellency retained their portfolio.

“This showed he produced the needed and satisfactory results on premise of his first appointment.

“Hon Greg Nnaji was appointed Commissioner for Science & Technology in 2015 where he became the game changer in Technological advancement in the State with National awards. Engr Nnaji was reassigned to the Works and Infrastructure Ministry in 2017, and was reappointed in 2019 and has supervised over 600 Kilometers of roads including bridges in the urban and rural areas graciously awarded by the working Governor.

“While I advise the Commissioner’s critics to shun destructive criticism, I also remind them to urge contractors to maintain the In-house quality control and quality assurance as enshrined in the contractual terms.

“The man who was the Lead Consultant Engineer for the Engineering Design of significant number of Roads & bridges for the previous administration is a veteran engineer who deserves commendations not condemnations,” Comr. Ani said.
