In what can best be described as an unfortunate scene, the couple that were responsible for the inhumane treatment meted on the 10-year-old-girl living with them were seen accusing each other of being responsible for the numerous injury on the body of the girl.
Speaking to newsmen at Enugu police command headquarters on Monday when CP Ahmed Abdurrahman paraded them, Ifeoma Ozougwu said contrary to her earlier statement to the police, that her husband is responsible for all the injury on the little Nneoma’s body.
“My husband is responsible for all the injuries on her body.
‘My earlier statement was because i didn’t want my husband to lose his job nor go jail but all the wounds inflicted on the girl’s body was done by my husband. This was exactly the same way he maltreated our last child when he came to live with us.
“I only flogged her and that broke her hand,” She said.
In contrast to what his wife said, Mr Jude Ozougwu said he’s innocent of the allegation by her wife insisting that it was her wife that gave her all the injury stating that he warned the wife from the onset of their marriage that he never wanted any house-help.
“From the onset, i warned her i don’t want any house-help in the house and she went ahead to bring their last born first and that one was sent back.
“She’s the one that did everything and when i came back and saw the injuries, i asked her what happened and i wasn’t happy about it.
Asked about the iron injury on the body of the girl, Mr. Ozougwu said; “I used the iron to threaten her because they said she was behaving abnormally.
The couple are currently cooling off at Nsukka Correction facility after the Magistrate Court denied them bail on Monday following the objection raised by the Police prosecutor, CSP Paschal Nwachukwu.
