The Enugu State governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has inaugurated the State Community Policing Advisory Committee (SCPAC).

Inaugurating the 17-Man Committee; which is the custodial and highest policy-making arm of the Nigeria Community Policing Structure at Government House, Enugu, the Executive Governor Ugwuanyi applauded the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu NPM, mni, for his forthrightness and zeal to give the New Community Policing Model the needed drive.

The Governor said the Model is in tandem with his administration’s security strategy and one that “will certainly be a strong flip to its modest accomplishments in security of lives and property“ in the State.

Furthermore, he congratulated the committee Chaired by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman MCPSS, MCJ, MNIM and co-chaired by Chairman of the State’s Traditional Rulers Council, HRH, Igwe Amb. Lawrence Agubuzu, and tasked them to bring their wealth of experience to bear, given their “competencies, diverse experiences and track records of performance.”

The Inspector General of police who was represented by DIG Celestine Okoye PhD, fsi, fspsp, psc, in-charge of Force Department of ICT, in his speech, lauded the Governor for the successful inauguration of the Committee in the State, assuring that “the new model will be completely community-driven.”

In a brief remark, the Zonal Inspector-General of Police in-charge of the newly established Zone 13, Ukpo, Dunukofia, Anambra State, AIG Mohammed Danmallam fdc, while describing the birthing of the New Community Policing Model as “a right idea coming at the right time”, assures of his commitment to fully utilize the strategy in ensuring that the good people of the Zone, including those in the State, “sleep with their two eyes closed.”

Speaking on behalf of members of the Committee, Enugu State Commissioner of Police and Chairman of the Committee, while thanking President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR for his “wisdom in resuscitating and re-jigging community policing in the country”, applauded the IGP for “making the programme a reality” and thanked the Governor for his leadership role and commitment to have the programme kicked-off.

He pledged the Committee’s loyalty and commitment to put in their best to achieve its set goals/objectives.

Other members of the Committee, include: Air Commodore Chidiebere Obiabaka (Commander 553, Base Services Group of Nigeria Air Force, Enugu); O.S. Olofu (State Director, DSS); Abdullahi Abdul (Enugu State Commander of NDLEA); Everistus Obiyo (Commandant, NSCDC, Enugu State); Emmanuel Arogundade (Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Enugu State); Ogbonnaya Kalu (Sector Commander, FRSC, Enugu State); and Engr. Okwudiri Daniel Ohaa (Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service).

Others are: M. I. Baya (Controller of Nigeria Customs Service, Enugu State); K. C. Emelue (Controller of Correctional Service, Enugu State); Rev. Emmanuel Edeh (Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Enugu State); Alhaji Abubakar Sambo (Sarki Hausa); Prof. Chinedu Nebo (Former Minister of Power, representing Enugu West Senatorial District); Prof. Bartholomew Nnaji (Former Minister of Power, representing Enugu East Senatorial District); Hon. Dr. Maduka Onyishi (representing Enugu North Senatorial District); and Hon. Dr. Dominic Ezema (Chairman, PCRC, Enugu State).
