Amb. Albert Ezenwata

Amb. Ezenwata Albert from Udenu local government of Enugu State has emerged the new National Deputy Speaker of Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN).

Amb. Ezenwata who was Enugu State Speaker of YAN between 2015-2019 defeated his challenger, Amb. Sotonye Akine, from Rivers state in the election of the Assembly held on July 25th, 2020.

The chairman, National Convention Committee, Ambassador Umaru Babayaro who declared the result of the election said that Amb. Ezenwata garnered 294 votes.

Amb. Umaru said; “Shuaibu Sani from Nasarawa State scored 541 votes to emerge the National Speaker, while Amb. Albert Ezenwata from Enugu State scored 294 votes to emerge the National Deputy Speaker.

“For the office of the Majority Leader, Amb. Samuel Adeyelu scored 442 votes, while Amb. Musbau Esinrogunjo polled 442 votes to emerge deputy Majority leader.

“For the office of Chief Whip, Amb. Sanusi Sarki – Sokoto State scored 400 votes, while Amb King C. King – Imo State scored 242 votes to emerge deputy Chief Whip.

“The persons with the highest votes are hereby declared winners of the election and are returned elected into the above positions,” he said.

Before his emergence as the National Deputy Speaker, Amb. Ezenwata was the Chairman, House Committee on Labour and Employment of the Assembly.

On 29th September, 2019, he was elected the Enugu State Ambassador which made him eligible to contest for the national position.

In his acceptance speech, Amb. Ezenwata while thanking the National Convention committee also thanked those who worked for his emergence.

He also restated his firm believe that the country can be better than it’s currently if the youths can rise up to the occasion and play their role without any political bias.

“I strongly believe that this country can be better than it is. Fixing it up can be done by no one but me and you. No matter how far we have waited, the time to do this solemn task is now.”
