Though 2023 general elections is still more than 2 years away from now, the recent political discussion in some quarters about who will represent Enugu West Senatorial Zone has made this article timely.

It’s pertinent to state that Enugu West Senatorial Zone is made up of two cultural zones; Greater Agwu and Agbaja. While greater Awgu is made up of Aninri, Awgu and Oji River local government areas, Agbaja is made up of Udi and Ezeagu LGAs.

While all the other four LGAs in the zone has produced a senator since the inception of the zone over 40 years ago, Udi LGA, the largest and about the oldest in the zone is yet to take a stint at the most exalted position in the zone.

As 2023 election draws closer, all men of conscience most rise and stand for Equity, Justice and Fairness. It’s equitable if what’s meant for five local governments goes round. Justice demands that Udi, the largest and oldest local government is supported by all and sundry to produce the next senator as that will be naturally fair.

From records available to me, Senator Chukwu Anyim from Awgu represented the zone from Oct. 1979 to June 1981.

Senators B.C. Okwu, June 1981 to Oct. 1983, Sydney Mgbejiofor, Oct. 1983 to Dec. 1983 and Hyde Onuaguluchi, May 1999 to July 2001 all from Oji River have represented the zone at the Red Chamber.

Senator Ben Collins Ndu from Ezeagu took charge of the affairs of the zone between Dec 1992-Nov1993 and Mar. 2001-Jun. 2003.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu from Aninri has been at the Red Chamber from May 2003 till date.

In all these, Udi LG have been religious in their support for those candidate from the above mentioned LG. Thus, I see no reason UDI will be left out from not attaining that seat of the Senator of Enugu West come 2023.

However anyone wants to look at, Udi should be allowed to represent the Zone. Agbaja has been shortchanged and 2023 should be the year it will end.

Udi has able and capable men and women that can continue with the developmental strides the present Senator has brought to the zone and every other local government and leading political parties in the state should go to Udi come 2023.

I urge our brothers and sisters from Aninri, Agwu, Oji-River and Ezeagu to join hands with Udi and support her to produce the next Senator of Enugu West come 2023.

Remember, it is not a do or die affairs, it is a call for EQUITY, JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS. This is a cause i so much believe in and will be ready to commit my time, resources and contact into ensuring it sees the light of the day. No amount of political correctness or media abracadabra will change my stand on this.

Udi is ready and waiting to take it for it’s our turn!
