…Calls for more support from other corporate organisations and political class

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has commended Oriental Energy Resources Limited an indigenous oil exploration and production company in Nigeria for donating a Youth Empowerment Centre to Mbo empowerment Foundation in Akwa Ibom State.

The Corporate Communications Manager of Oriental Energy, Sam Umukoro, said the Youth Empowerment Centre will serve as a sustainable enterprise and viable income generator for the Youths in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and also a demonstration of Oriental Energy’s commitment to sustainable enterprise development, capacity building and employment opportunities.

The facilities at the centre include; Cybercafe, Flex room, graphics room, press room, separation room, desktop computers, industrial paper cutter, two generators, an inverter power system, together with various machines for printing, scanning, lamination, monogramming, lithography and colour separation as well as donation of a start up grant of five million Naira to the Mbo empowerment Foundation amongst others.

According to the National Coordinator of POCACOV CSP Ebere Amaraizu, “the firm must be commended on this giant stride.

“This is a good step from the right direction and it is all about giving the youths strategic leadership direction and helping them to change the dangerous narratives thereby making them better through resourceful youth engagement activities rather than making or seeing them as object to be used for thuggery, violence and other vices that is militating against our societal growth and development.

“POCACOV is excited and impressed with this development hence we advocate for more from other multinationals, political class, other well meaning Nigerian as well as Non Governmental Organizations to join hands and work towards the establishment of more youths empowerment centres together with a planned programme of action which will seek to engage and empower Nigerian Youths. This will make them meaningful and potent in the Nation building rather than leaving them vulnerable to be seen as objects and instruments to be used to cause violence and other counter productive tendencies.

“We are happy that stakeholders, corporate bodies, Government and Non Governmental Bodies, Community Based Groups, Faith Based Groups, Union Bodies amongst others are getting the message of POCACOV. We shall continue to engage stakeholders as a community driven programme to Advocate, Create awareness and sensitizations as well as reorientation and mentoring activities to ensure that our children and youths are saved from the claws of cultism, substance abuse, sexual and gender based violence, thuggery/violence and other vices,” Amaraizu saId.

POCACOV is an initiative of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu aimed at saving Nigerian Children and Youths from the Claws of Cultism and other vices through stakeholders engagement programme thereby making Nigerian society safe and secured.
