The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has stated that its campaign against cultism and other vices under safer school/community of POCACOV Volunteer Club scheme will be deepened to yield the desired result of saving Nigerian children/youths from the claws of cultism and other vices.
The strategy was to use the game of chess which will help to give them strategic leadership direction, detest and stay away from cultism and other vices as well as cutting off the supply line.
This was disclosed on Friday by the POCACOV’s National Coordinator, CSP Ebere Amaraizu at the IGP Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu while reacting on the essence of chess game and POCACOV/chess partnership.
According to him, “POCACOV will be working with chess instructors as our stakeholders to achieve the purpose of the use of chess game to deepen POCACOV message.
“This is because the chess game is problem solving, chess players are known for creative thinking, strategic thinking, sportsmanship, calmness under pressure amongst others.
“Chess game improves memory, increases creativity and intelligent quotient as well as attitude of self reliance and confidence of do it yourself.
“Chess game has the capacity of turning extrovert children to introverts, creates option of choice. The game of chess is vital to our children and youths as it will help them learn to do thorough analysis, research and assessment before making any decision because chess exercise provides mental clarity to them this because mental clarity and mental dexterity is required for problem solving,analysing of consequences as well as formulating future tactics.”
Amaraizu added that “POCACOV will be working with different stakeholders such as Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) as corporate organizations, Parents, Teachers Association, school owners, including faith-based organizations amongst other relevant stakeholders for a smooth flag off and implementations of the objectives of this laudable POCACOV activity which is for safer school of POCACOV Volunteer Club (PVC).
“The importance of chess game in the repositioning of the mindset of our children and youths thereby giving them strategic leadership direction cannot be overemphasized as it makes them to learn how to strategize in life and also offering them the ability of foresight and planning.
“POCACOV in partnership with its stakeholders, has worked out modalities for the flag off of Pocacov/chess game for safer school of Pocacov volunteer club scheme which will take place in Umuahia Abia state.
“POCACOV will be flagging off the scheme with selected schools under Abia Central, Abia South and Abia North for a start with Chess Board and materials provided for take off. This is a way of providing of alternatives and direction to the youths by POCACOV.”
