According to the United Nations (UN) observances, each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly declared September 21 as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of Peace in every human Community. The 2020 International peace day celebration is themed ” Shaping Peace Together” .
Coincidentally, the United Nations (UN) chose the Topic “Shaping Peace Together” at this point when His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have expanded his Peaceful candour in Enugu State. Shaping Peace Together is critical to global stability and progress. It is indeed the best Theme to describe Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s outstanding Peace Philosophy in Enugu State. Nevertheless, some disgruntled persons who are better recognized as enemies of Peace and Tranquility have occasioned the enquiry ( Is Governor Ugwuanyi wrong by being peaceful ?) which I intend to address briefly.
Governor Ugwuanyi’s Philosophy of Peace .
Whenever an unbiased assessment of Governor Ugwuanyi’s Peace philosophy is discussed, the personality that comes to mind is Mahatma Ghandi of India. The most fundamental principle of Ghandi’s philosophy of peace is “Ahimsa” or non-violence which is law of love, life and creation as opposed to violence or Himsa, the cause of hatred, death and destruction. This philosophy (Ahimsa) is what Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State have demonstrated in the past five years. The gains of his Peace philosophy can be seen in the restoration of Peace and Progress in all Communities in Enugu State. Consequentially, uninterrupted developmental activities have been recorded while so many projects are ongoing in Enugu State courtesy of Mahatma Ghandi of Enugu State, His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi.
Is Governor Ugwuanyi Wrong By Being Peaceful?
Considering the negative and malicious impressions created by those I recognized as enemies of Peace and Tranquility in Enugu State, let me briefly itemize the ” wrongs ” Governor Ugwuanyi have done to them and their Principal partners.
1. Stamping out Exclusion.
Right from his first day in office, May 29 2015, His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi started by stamping out exclusion. Evidence shows that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi started by including those who have been excluded in terms of development, political empowerment and Open Governance . This is in line with this year’s World Peace Day Theme ” Shaping Peace Together” .
This same All-inclusive style of Government was recently showcased when Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi formally welcomed the Ebeano Political Family in a historical solidarity – loyalty visit. The inclusion of Ebeano Political Family is not only a sign of gratitude and Peace but a resounding message that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is the Mahatma Ghandi of our time.
2. Respect and Recognition.
The second “wrong” is the uncommon recognition and respect for all, including the enemies of Peace and Tranquility in Enugu State have been given so much in terms of Political appointments, etc. No other Governor in the history of Enugu State have been this magnanimous like His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
3. Open Governance.
One of the surest way to promote Peace and Progress is through Open Governance. It is common knowledge that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi runs Open Governance Policy which have made Government House Enugu accessible to Ndi Enugu, the true owners. Unfortunately, this is an offense to the enemies of Peace and Tranquility. Through His Excellency’s Open- Door- Policy, sustainable Communal Peace is guaranteed because His Excellency is always open to discussion and amicable resolution of issues affecting Ndu Enugu.
4. Stance on the need for Equality.
Equity is the cardinal ingredient needed to maintain Peace. It is an Equitable era for Ndi Enugu because we have a Leader who is determined to sustain our Equitable coexistence as a State.
However, the Equitable dispositions of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi upsets only the enemies of Peace and Tranquility.
As the world remembers the need for Peace today – September 21 2020, it is proper to celebrate the icon of Peace in Enugu State, His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi ( Mahatma Ghandi of our time) .
It is equally most appropriate to encourage His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to continue with his “Peace Philosophy ( Ahimsa) ” because just as Jesus Christ said in the Holy Bible – Matthew 5:9 Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”
Therefore, it is not “Wrong” for Ugwuanyi to be Peaceful. Let Nobody take Peace for granted.
Happy World Peace Day , Ndi Enugu
