•CP enjoins citizenry to completely disregard malicious falsehood •Directs discreet investigation to fish out culprits •Assures adequate security

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdurrahman, has urged the general public and residents of the state to disregard claims making rounds on social media platforms that the SARS Police station was attacked by some unknown gunmen, describing such claims as ‘baseless and malicious falsehood.’

Abdurrahman further noted that such claims that six SARS personnel were killed during the attack, while many allegedly sustained bullet wounds and station set on fire, were “being peddled by disgruntled and mischief-makers, as such did not happen in SARS office or anywhere in the state.”

Speaking through the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, the Commissioner wondered “why anyone or group of persons will be so disgruntled, mischievous and find time to conjure-up such unthinkable and malicious falsehood, capable of rousing tension in the hitherto peaceful state,” warning that “its originators and peddlers will be made to face the full wrath of the law when apprehended.”

The statement added, “To this end, the CP directs the conduct of discreet investigation to fish out peddlers of the misleading information and reassures the emplacement of adequate security in the State. He enjoins citizens not to panic over such unfounded news and go about their lawful businesses.”

Meanwhile, citizens of the State have been enjoined to remain law-abiding and guard against the spread of such falsehood, while reporting perpetrators to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines on: 08032003702, 08086671202, 08075390883 or 08098880172.
