Ahead of the national flag-off of the POCACOV school chess game for safer school and community billed to take place in Umuahia Abia state, the Abia state Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede has commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu on the POCACOV School Chess game for safer school and community, describing it as a veritable tool for children and youths reorientation and for strategic leadership direction considering the benefits of chess as a game.

She described POCACOV as community policing at work and extolled the strategic leadership qualities of the Inspector General of Police as demonstrated in the ongoing community driven programme of police campaign against cultism and other vices(POCACOV).

She made the commendation today in her office at the state command headquarters in Umuahia, when she hosted POCACOV Team on courtesy visit to her Command ahead of the flag off of the POCACOV school chess game for safer school and community.

She thanked the POCACOV Team on the intensive campaign against cultism and other vices in Nigeria which she described as a right step from the right direction and assured of her support together of the command for the success of the POCACOV school chess game flag off.

Responding on behalf of the National Coordinator, POCACOV CSP Ebere Amaraizu, the lead consultant, Emmanuel Akinola Ogunremi thanked the commissioner of police on behalf of the other team members for her kindness and efforts geared towards making the event a reality in Umuahia.

He assured that the POCACOV school chess game, flag off for safer school/community will also pave way for Abia state POCACOV Summit which is another community driven/engagement programme of POCACOV for safer communities.
Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of POCACOV CSP Ebere Amaraizu has stated that the choice of the use of chess game is in accordance with its many benefits and which is in line with POCACOV vision and mission of helping to give strategic leadership direction to children and youths which has to do with problem solving, creative thinking, strategic thinking, sportsmanship, calmness under pressure, memory improvement, increase in creativity amongst others.

He further disclosed that the theme of the POCACOV School game flag off as supported by two POCACOV stakeholders Deacon Buchi the singer and Mark Ugorji is ‘One Chess Board Will Make The Difference.’

The programme is unique and geared towards realization of goal 16 (Peace, Justice and strong institutions) of the sustainable development goals(SDGs) and will bring about existence of a POCACOV Chess Academy in Umuahia which will serve as a hub of bringing up champions that will be representing the Abia state and Nigeria in Chess game and also helping to build better and patriotic children and youths in Nigeria and by giving them strategic leadership direction.

The programme comes up on 15/10/2020 by 10:30 am local time at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia with some selected schools and stakeholders to be in attendance with full observation of COVID-19 Protocols and precautionery measures.

POCACOV is the initiative of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu aimed at saving Nigeria children and youths from the claws of cultism, substance/drug abuse, swxual and gender based violence, thuggery/violence, internet fraud and other vices and thereby making the entire society safe and secured. It is a community driven programme strategically structured in line with the tenets of community oriented policing.
