…as POCACOV Coordinator sue for improved partnership, information flow

A two-day training programme for custodial information officers organized by the Nigerian Correctional Service Enugu state Command as convened by the state’s Comptroller of Corrections, Emelue Chiedu Joseph began Monday, November 16 at the State Headquarters Conference Hall of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Independence Layout, Enugu.

The Controller of Corrections, Enugu state reminded the information officers on the essence of the training and importance of information flow and management as well as its effect when it is not managed very well.

He charged the participants who are correctional officers to pay attention to the various resource persons drawn for the programme to widen their scope of knowledge in information gathering and sharing.

Presenting his lecture on the subject matter ‘Security Information and Management’ as guest lecturer, the National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV), CSP Ebere Amaraizu thanked the command for providing a platform that will widen the scope of their level of information management to advance organization goals of bridging the gap between the correctional service and the public and assured of POCACOV continual partnership through its programme on reorientation and rehabilitation.

Amaraizu who also is the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations(NIPR) Enugu state chapter, charged the information officers on professionalism and for them to be in tune and conversant with developments around them by involving themselves with various update including correctional service Acts and organizational policies.

Earlier, the Assistant Programme officer, Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Association(PRAWA), Linda Reuben had presented various provisions as contained in the new Correctional Service Act which brought about so many innovations in the correctional service system and urged them to ensure the full implementation of the Act which also made provision for restorative justice, custodial and non custodial systems amongst others.

In his vote of thanks, the Enugu State Command Correctional Service Public Relations officer, Emeka Monday on behalf of the Controller Correction and senior officers of the command, thanked all the resource persons and assured that officers will make due of lessons drawn from the training as there are many professional take away from the resource persons. The training programme will be concluded on 17/11/2020.
