As voting is about to close in the by=election for Isiuzo state constituency election in Enugu, the All Progressives Congress is accusing the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party of engaging in “heavy vote buying and intimidation of voters”.

The state Chairman of the APC, Barr. Ben Nwoye said their party is “currently cruising to victory in the election but the PDP has deployed a vote-buying mechanism adjacent to most of the pooling boots to thwart our lead.

“They are giving the people as little as N1, 000 and N2, 000 to vote for them and the hunger in the country is making them succeed,” Nwoye alleges.

He also raised alarm on the use of violence where their candidate is showing a strong presence and the intimidation of voters.

“In some areas where they couldn’t buy votes, they are instigating violence. In places like the College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Ikem Central School and many others. One of our senatorial aspirants in the area and a Rtd. Deputy controller of the Nigeria Custom was attacked.”

The APC leader also accused INEC officials of conniving with one of the parties to undermine the entire process and some of them he said; “went as far as giving out the unused ballot papers to the PDP agents for them to thumbprint.” He also called on INEC to investigate this.
On his expectations, Barr Nwoye said they are sure of victory except there is other high level manipulation of the process.

We gathered that security agents have been able to restore normalcy in these areas.

Our correspondent also reports that the election witnessed a low turnout which could be attributed to the failure to restrict movement in the area as even the markets are on.
