The Commander of the Delta Anti-cult Volunteer Corps, Amb. Ogwu-Chinuwa Austyne Emuamaka has been gruesomely murdered by suspected cultists in Kwale, Ndokwa West LGA of Delta State.
Community sources in Kwale told journalists in Asaba that the incident occurred on Saturday night after Austyne had attended a meeting in the community.
“Austine was shot dead while returning from a meeting with the former Commissioner, representing Ndokwa West on the board of DESOPADEC.
“He was invited for a meeting at the house of the former commissioner, but unknown to him over twenty members of a cult group were already in the premises.
“After the meeting, he made to his car and was about driving out of the premises when he was shot at close range,” the source said.
He was rushed to Donak Hospital, Kwale, where he was confirmed dead.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Delta Police Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the killing of Emuamaka .
She said investigation has commenced, but added that the police are yet to make any arrest in relation to the killing.
His death is causing serious unrest in the area as the youths mobilized themselves and set the House of the former commissioner ablaze.
According to a police communication, when the youths stormed the compound, the place was already deserted.
