…suspects on the run

A middle-aged man, identified as Chukwunenye Nwadiobu, has been rescued by Police and vigilance groups from alleged assassination in the hands of suspected cultists in Anambra State.

The victim was rescued Friday night at Ifite-Awka, in Awka South local government area of the State.

He was alleged to have been tied with a rope by his assailants and laid on a wooden stake before the Police and AVS men arrived.

Confirming the report Sunday in Awka, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Haruna, said the command was in a manhunt for the suspects.

He said the State Commissioner of Police, Abang John, had vowed to protect lives and property of Ndi Anambra, especially, during the yuletide period.

According to him, “On the 12/12/2020 at about 8:30 pm, there was a distress call that unknown gunmen inside a tricycle close to Aroma junction forced a vehicle to a stop and dragged out a middle-aged man from his Toyota Sienna car with REG NO.AWK-334-SZ.

“The suspects also abducted the victim and whisked him away inside the tricycle towards Ifite deep inside the bush.

“Following the distress call, police operatives attached to B’ Division Awka in conjunction with vigilante group responded swiftly and went after the gang to a location inside an expansive bush at Agbani Ifite Awka where the assailants on sighting the police abandoned their badly beaten victim.

“The victim was later identified as one Chukwunenye Nwachukwu Nwadiobu popularly known as (Akirika) of Amudo village who was tied with a rope and about to be murdered on a laid wooden stake before the arrival of the police.”

He said exhibits recovered at the scene included a blue and white tricycle with REG NO.AWK-161-VG, ID card bearing one ORDINAKA AYAEGBUSI also identified by the victim as one of his assailants and other incriminating items.
