Ahead of the forthcoming council election in Abia State, the government has declared Friday, 18th December, 2020 a public holiday.

This was contained in a public service announcement signed by Chief John Okiyi Kalu, the
Honorable Commisioner for Information.

Chief Okiyi also disclosed that movement will be restricted within the state by midnight of Thursday, December 17th and called on the citizens to maintain peace before, during and after the polls.

The announcement reads;

“Due to the forthcoming local government elections holding in the state, Government has declared Friday, 18th December 2020, a public holiday.

“Furthermore, movement of persons and goods shall be restricted within the state from midnight of Thursday, 17th December, 2020 with only staff of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), security agents, media practitioners and others on essential duties exempted.

“We wish to call on citizens and visitors alike to ensure the maintenance of peace, law and order before, during and after the election.
