The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has been commended for the POCACOV initiative of the Nigeria Police Force which is community driven and aimed at sensitizing different stakeholders on the dangers of cultism and other vices and galvanizing their support towards mitigating the monster which has become a global pandemic.
Bishop Amaechi Nwachukwu of the Amazing Love Assembly made the commendation in Enugu yesterday when the National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV), CSP Ebere Amaraizu with the team of the IGP M.A Adamu Resource Centre paid him a courtesy visit as part of POCACOV measures of visiting religious leaders to galvanize support on youth value reorientation and strategic leadership direction for a safer school and community.
According to the cleric who also doubles as the Grand Patron of POCACOV, “the Nigeria Police Force under Inspector General of Police IGP Mohammed Adamu has done well by bringing up a community driven and oriented programme of this magnitude which is aimed at sensitizing Nigerian children and youths, reawakening the consciousness of adults and relevant stakeholders on the dangers of cultism and other vices and galvanizing stakeholders support towards addressing the malady thus making our youth better. I have carefully followed the programme and discovered that it is also a connecting link between the police and members of the community.”
He also made a case for all to join hands with POCACOV in the ongoing campaign and to ensure that youth engagement programmes are vigorously pursued by all and sundry.
“There has to be various skill acquisition programmes and engagement for the youth and they have to be empowered to carry out their various skill acquisition programmes,” he added.
He also commended Amaraizu and his team of POCACOV for various ongoing POCACOV intervention programmes in some schools and communities across the federation.
Responding, the National Coordinator Ebere Amaraizu, thanked Bishop Nwachukwu on behalf of the IGP for the support given to the POCACOV Resource Centre to effectively perform its role of developing modules and intervention measures and links for the campaign throughout the country, pointing out that the first quarter programme of POCACOV intervention will center on ways of mitigating criminal recidivism by discharged and acquitted youths from custodial centers which will be done in partnership with the Nigeria correctional service with relevant stakeholders.
He added that currently the centre in partnership with relevant institutions and stakeholders are developing modules on factors responsible for girl child prostitution and the use of boy or girl child to those things that usually expose them to criminal involvement as well as other vices and how to mitigate it for a safer school/community.
Highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of the POCACOV Annual Table Calendar which has campaign details and information to the Lord Bishop.
