The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has revealed that year 2021 will be a year of ‘Self Discovery’ for Nigerian youths which will make them to constantly discover their potentials devoid of cultism, sexual and gender-based violence, substance/drug abuse, trafficking in persons, thuggery and violence and other vices.

The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, made this known at the IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu Pocacov Resource Centre Enugu while responding to questions on the POCACOV programme on youth value reorientation, engagement and strategic leadership direction for the year 2021 tagged “A year of Self Discovery For Nigerian Youths.”

According to him, “Modules have been developed to run in various clusters across the federation to tap into the overall essence of the Nigeria Police Force dwelling on the realization of public safety and security and anchored on Community Oriented Policing tenets.”

He maintained that the essence of the program is “to sensitize different stakeholders and importantly the youth who are largely victims of this infection of Moral Virus which has given birth to crime perpetration and involvement in cultism and other vices by the youths.

“The program will consolidate on the strong and acceptable traditions of putting a round peg in a round hole thus encouraging competitions and not truancy or the machaivalian theory of the end justifies the means which has left moral/value infections in our society.

“The programme will galvanize the support of the youth to understand their importance in the national safety, security and development and as leaders,” Amaraizu added.

He thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu “for his servant leadership mindset which has propelled the POCACOV initiative and its numerous intervention program aimed at providing alternatives and strategic leadership direction for the Nigerian youths.”

He said: “the Nigeria Police Force through the POCACOV initiative has created robust awareness on youth involvement in crime, cultism and other vices, its consequences and way out. POCACOV wants all to take responsibility as parents, guardians, caregivers, relevant stakeholders cannot exonerate themselves from taking responsibilities on the prevalence of loss of value system/moral decadence amongst children and youths.

“According to onetime president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, ‘Any nation without morals is like a body without soul.’ This indeed has propelled the year 2021 self-discovery for Nigerian youths which will expose them towards having Power of Focus and never to be allowed to be used in perpetration of vices, violent activities as well as crime and let alone to see them as veritable but destructive.

“POCACOV shall be working with ministries, department and agencies, community-based and youth-based organizations and groups including market women, unions, faith-based organizations and essentially ministries of youth and sports development, culture and tourism amongst others with a view to galvanizing their support towards invigorating those value system and cultures that promotes hardwork, dedication and the needed discipline that have been jettisoned and abandoned and which is the bedrock and panacea to good behaviour. This is in line with the Nigeria Police effort through POCACOV initiative in the realization of Goal No 16 (Peace, Strong Institution, Justice) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
