Prof. George Obiozor

A pan-Igbo group, Kwado Ndigbo, has congratulated Prof. George Obiozor on his emergence as the new president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

In a statement on Monday by the Co-convener of the group, Dr. Laz Ude Eze, said they have no doubt that Obiozor with his wealth of experience in different fields, would take the Igbo nation to a greater height.

He, however, advised the new Ohanaeze leader to galvanize the support of stakeholders in the country to ensure a president of Igbo extraction emerges in 2023 election.

According to the group: “We received with happiness the news of the successful completion of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo 2021 general elections by the Chief Gary Igariwey-led Electoral Committee.

“We congratulate Professor George Obiozor on his election as President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World-wide. We also congratulate Ambassador Okey Emuchay on his election as the Secretary-General and all the other newly elected officers at various levels.

“With Prof. Obiozor’s pedigree, contact networks and experience in the academia, research, public service and diplomatic circles, we believe he would leverage on them and lead Ohanaeze Ndigbo to greater heights.

“As former international diplomats, we believe the new PG and Secretary will listen to concerns on the current structure and operations of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and make deliberate efforts to address them.

“We are optimistic that under the new leadership, Ohanaeze Ndigbo would demonstrate wisdom and courage, work with all and for all well-meaning Ndigbo and our well wishers in protecting Alaigbo from existential threats.

“We enjoin the new leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to mobilise the support of other Nigerians to elect a President of Nigeria of South East extraction in 2023.

“Prof. Obiozor should also sustain the active leadership role of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the national push for the restructuring of Nigeria, and secure the buy-in of more socio-cultural groups including the Arewa Consultative Forum.

“We commend the immediate past PG, Chief Nnia Nwodo for his courageous leadership and sacrifices for Ndigbo and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
