Rt Hon Chima Obieze, MEMBE representing Ezeagu Constituency at Enugu State House of Assembly has disclosed that he will “never do anything ungodly to remain in power”.
The lawmaker while reflecting about his life in politics said:
“Depending on politics as a source of livelihood is why some politicians can do just anything to hang on to power. Anything, including selling their soul to the devil. I do not belong to that class of politicians- those who know that outside the political position they occupy, they don’t see themselves capable of taking up any challenging task anywhere else other than government for survival.
“Well for me, politics is not a ‘do or die’ thing. Its good to always have a life outside politics and this is what I have done.
“I walk the streets till today, I drink at the pubs when I feel like. I still hang out at Ghetto bars. I do these things because I have nothing to be scared of. So when each of my terms as a public servant expires i won’t find it difficult reintegrating myself with the people because i never left them.
“So, for now, I serve the people of Ezeagu Constituency primarily and Enugu State in general. But I function with the mandate of Ndi Ezeagu. At anytime they express their will that I should not continue to hold their mandate, I’ll go and face my other careers. While I will continually work for the greater good of humanity.
“But I’ll never do anything ungodly, inhuman or treacherous to keep myself in power. I never did before God brought me here, I will not do any to get higher. I will continue to do my best for my people as i hand my affairs and my future over to God Almighty and to the wills of the people I serve.
“I have watched as many political players attack, crush and crumble on each other in desperation to remain in power. It breaks my heart because I value the relationships I see them tier apart. I watch with disdain how most of our young political players or aspiring politicians(if I may use that term) have Turned themselves into vessels of evil & destruction. They do this just to find themselves in the political circle. Very painful & regrettable. I see people that do such things as part of the reason we are still here as a nation. Wanna be a politician, first go get a life.
“God gives power. So honour God, serve your people with humility, commitment, honour your superiors/Leaders and show remarkable loyalty (without compromising your values & principles), prepare yourself always for life outside politics to avoid desperation, shun violence, treachery and anything evil. Above all, endeavour to Pray. God must give you a platform to do His work, and give you the two most valuable things in life; peace of mind and true happiness,” the lawmaker concluded.
