Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has reached out to the elderly through the door-to-door free healthcare and medical services provided to the elderly persons in the state.

This gesture carried out under the banner of “GburusCare Initiative” has been described by the people of the state as the first of its kind.

The team was at Edem Ani in Nsukka local government area of the state on Saturday, 20th February.

According to reports, the Gburus-Care initiative conducts a home-to-home medical care mission to aged people in the state.

The mobile medical team of this nouveau idea led by Dr. Melchizedek C. Ani and his team members made up of medical doctors, medical laboratory scientists, nurses and pharmacists moved from one home to another taking care of the medical and health needs of aged persons and extending the love of the state governor.

While the Nurses were responsible for checking the vital signs of the patients, the Medical laboratory scientists conduct tests such as Random Blood Sugar(RBS), Hepatitis B&C and Malaria Parasite using RDT. The doctors consult and counsel the patient and also prescribe medications that would then be dispensed to the patients/participants by the Pharmacist.

The medications were sorted to address recurrent health challenges of aged people such as hypertension, high blood sugar, ulcer, arthritis, worm, etc. Patients were also provided with multivitamins that would help boost their immunities against diseases. Patients, where necessary were also counseled and recommended higher medical attention or medications.

The mission, even though rigorous proved to the aged people and others how much importance the governor places on the health of the people.

The Technical Assistant to the governor on Healthcare Sct. Darlington Ugwuegbe pointed out that Ugwuanyi’s love for them(aged people) was what motivated him to deploy such number of healthcare professionals to tend to their medical needs.

He pleaded that the elders should always remember the governor in their everyday prayers.
