•SOKAPU fingers Fulani militia
•Joint security operation kills eight bandits in Katsina

Terrorists have killed about 10 persons in Zangon Kataf and Chikun local councils of Kaduna State, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, stated yesterday.

While stating that search and rescue missions had begun in the troubled areas, Aruwan added that the injured had been taken to hospital for treatment.

In Zangon Kataf, Kurmin Gandu village was attacked by armed men and five persons identified as Ishaya Aboi, Regina Ishaya, Goodluck Dauda, Joseph Adamu and Hassan Joseph were reportedly killed.

The commissioner added that 10 houses, two motorcycles and 50 bags of ginger were set ablaze in the local council by the bandits.

The Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) has accused the Fulani militia at Kakwa in Atyap Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf as responsible for the attack.

SOKAPU spokesman, Mr. Luka Binniyat, said that about 13 houses were razed by suspected Fulani militia.

Binniyat explained that those injured had been taken to the hospital for treatment, though he could not ascertained the number of those injured.

Said he: “We are still compiling the number of casualties. But, I can tell you that seven persons were killed. We will come out with the comprehensive figure in Atyap and other places for the world to know what the Fulani militia are doing to us.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammed Jalige, did not respond to calls put through his phone.

Similarly, bandits abducted three persons – one woman and two men – on Sunday in Katcha community of Niger State.

The Guardian gathered that armed gangs targeted shop owners, particularly beer parlour operators, at the outskirts of the town, behind the official residence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

The bandits reportedly stormed the town around 1.00a.m. and operated for three hours without interruption before they went away with the victims.

Chairman of the local council, Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Nna, confirmed the incident yesterday, saying that the kidnappers had not made any contact.

However, a joint police-military operation in Safana Local Council of Katsina State has neutralised eight bandits and inflicted gunshot wounds on several others.

This is even as three members of a notorious criminals gang have been apprehended, and N3.6 million recovered from them.

Police spokesperson in the state, Gambo Isah, while parading some suspects at the police command yesterday, said the bandits were killed in Gazurawa and Garin Gambo villages.

Isah said members of the joint security operation had raided the bandits’ hideouts in the area and recovered AK-47 rifle, ammunition and burnt motorcycles.
