The new Ag. Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba was born on March 1, 1963, in Geidam, Yobe state, and enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on March 15, 1988.

Baba holds a teacher’s grade II certificate (TC II) from Teachers College, Potiskum, Yobe.

He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Bayero University, Kano. He also has a masters in public administration from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state.

A member of the International Association of Police, and a fellow of the International War College started his carrier in the force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

He acted as a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in various places like Yola, Gombe, Kaduna, and Jos.

He rose to the rank of commissioner in January 27th 2014 and was posted to Delta state command.

Before attaining the rank of a commissioner, Bala served in the following places;

He was in Kaduna as the Deputy Commissioner, Administration; in FCT as the Deputy Commissioner, Investigation; he was also the directing staff the staff college.

He was in Ilorin as an Area Commander; the second-in-command in Ebonyi command; Assistant Commissioner, CID in Kaduna.

The Yobe state-born Police Officer has held various strategic positions in the force, these includes: the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone-5 which covers Benin, Zone-4 Makurdi, Zone-7 Abuja,

Commissioner of Police FCT and Delta Commands amongst others.

He has also held the position of Ag. DIG in-charge Finance and Administration and has also served as Force Secretary

He has been involved in so many peace keeping operations outside the country.

Until his appointment, Baba was the deputy inspector-general of police, force criminal investigation department, force headquarters.
