The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), the community driven program of the Nigeria Police Force aimed at sensitizing school children and other relevant stakeholders on the dangers of cultism and other vices for a safe, peaceful and secured community on Thursday kicked off the Dikeohamatics games.
As part of the ongoing nationwide school visitation program of the Force through POCACOV to advocate, reorient, mentor and create awareness for the realization of safe school and community, on Thursday, commenced another POCACOV activity to deepen the ongoing campaign tagged “POCACOV/Dikeohamatics games” which is targeted to encourage a platform of self discovery, erase the phobia for mathematics amongst pupils and children and also help to cut the supply chains and conveyor belts of cultism and other vices for a safe, peacefiul and secured community.
The event which took place at the premises of the Enugu state Broadcasting Service radio and television, attracted some selected pupils drawn from schools within the South East geopolitical zone, presented a platform of mouthwatering and bumper packaged mathematical games simplified for the pupils and which aided them to start loving and appreciating mathematics and solving them at ease.
According to the inventor of the game, Prof. Dikeoha Okwu and a POCACOV stakeholder, “Young minds are always afraid of mathematics and have pheobia for it and this has led to their seeking for solutions through very negative means like cultism, violence and other vices. It has also denied them the opportunity to take up some engineering courses that has to do with life coping and manipulative skills which has posed a great danger to the community and with Dikeohamatics which is endorsed by the National Mathematical Centre, Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, Nigeria School Sport Federation amongst others, pupils, students will learn, understand and appreciate mathematics using sports.
“Dikeohamatics games for mathematics are wide variety of friendly games played indoors and outdoors. They are in HCF, LCF, numeration of games, geometric shape games, linear equation games, amongst others.”
In his remarks, the National Coordinator POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, welcomed and thanked participants for coming to the event which he described as an activity for value reorientation and self discovery and importantly to cut the supply chains and conveyor belt of cultism and other vices. He further maintained that this was in line with the crime preventive framework of the Nigeria Police Force and pointing out that the exercise which afforded young minds to understand the scope and operation of their police as well as career opportunities is in line with the ongoing nationwide school visitation program embarked upon by the force public Relations Department.
Participants at the occassion expressed joy and happiness and appealed the program to be conducted regularly so as to serve as an engagement program between the police and the public at the primary levels to constantly educate the populace as people’s oriented police.
