Aisha Alhassan, former Nigerian Minister for Women Affairs is dead.

Alhassan, known widely as Mama Taraba, was appointed as Minister in 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

She however resigned from the cabinet in September 2018 after she was disqualified from contesting for the All Progressives Congress’ governorship ticket in Taraba state.

The former Senator, representing Taraba North Senatorial District died on Friday in Cairo, the Egyptian capital at 61 years old.

Al-Hassan, a staunch supporter of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) months after the poll.

In August 2020, she made revelations about her ordeal while in the APC.

She ran into trouble with the ruling party after declaring her support for Atiku’s presidential ambition.
