The identity of one of the police officers killed during a bloody attack on a police station at Iwollo Oghe, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu state on Tuesday, May 25 has been revealed.

The elder sister of the deceased, Joy Onoja revealed his name as Inspector Sunday Fred Onoja describing him as a “hero”.

Journalist101 had reported how Insp. Onoja and three of his colleagues were killed when unknown gunmen stormed their station, burning vehicles, motorcycles and a a part of the station.

Taking to Facebook on Thursday, May 27, Joy Onoja wrote:

“Sunset at Dawn! It”s too early nah bros! What a painful exit ! Of a Hero, a gallant and a vibrant young man, giving all gratitude to God almighty I announce the demise of my kid brother Inspector Sunday Fred Onoja, who was murdered in cold blood while on duty by unknown gunmen at his station in Enugu state alongside 3 other Police officers.

“Brother we love and will miss you, but God knows why this happened and we can’t question Him. Bros sleep on till we meet to part no more. Oh! God give us the grace to bear this loss” she wrote.

Narrating how the terrible incident happened, the Enugu Police Command PRO, Daniel Ndukwe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, stated that “the assailants attacked the station in large numbers at about 4am, killing the operatives and burning parts of the station.”

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliyu, had visited the station with his management team and operational/tactical commanders for an on-the-spot assessment.

“The hoodlums opened fire on police operatives on duty, but were gallantly resisted and in the ensuing gun duel, several of the assailants escaped with bullet injuries.

“Unfortunately, four police operatives, who sustained severe gunshot injuries, were later confirmed dead in the hospital,” he stated
