A student of the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Maiduguri, Borno State has been suspended for failing to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit to the State.

In the letter of expulsion shared on social media by human rights activists Inibehe Effiong, it revealed that the undisclosed student was suspended for one week which started counting from 21st June, 2021.

President Buhari visited Borno State on the 17th of June, 2021 to encourage the military who has been fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the State.

The student, however, was told to report back to the school on the 28th of June, 2021 with his/her parents or guardians according to the suspension letter which was signed by the Provost of the school.

In his reaction, the human rights activist wondered stressing that soon, people will be arrested for not loving the president.

“Can someone tell me what is going on in Nigeria? How do you suspend a student because the student failed or refused to welcome Buhari to Borno State? Isn’t this madness for crying out loud? What sort of absurdity and dictatorship is this?

“The way things are going, citizens will soon be punished for not loving the President. This is so disgusting. What happened to freedom of thought and conscience? What happened to the right to hold political opinion? This should better not be true.”
