The National Director of Special Duties of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the South-South and South East, Comrade Chime Ugochukwu Christopher, has described as ‘unguarded and malicious’, the claim by one David Wondikom who accused the Dean of Students Affairs and the management of the institution of hijacking the forthcoming Students Union election at the University of Port Harcourt.

Chime who denied the allegation in a statement on Thursday, noted that the NANS President, Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo “is strongly against oppression, victimization, blackmailing and all forms of injustice against all Nigerian students across the nation and in diaspora.”

He, therefore, warned David Wondikom and “urged all students to remain calm and desist from making statements or comments capable of undermining the peace on campus by hitting up the polity. I want to state categorically that NANS is watching closely the process of the election from the electoral committee formation and we can’t tolerate any form of blackmail from any student or group of students who are only selfish and don’t regard the interest of the students. Every student of the university have an equal right to vote and be voted for in the forthcoming election.

“I want to also use this medium to encourage all unique students to participate fully in determining the representatives in the coming election.

“Furthermore, I assure all students that myself, the Zonal Director under the Coordinator and the JCC on campus will keep monitoring and protecting the general interests of the students in making sure your votes are counted and the general will of the students prevail.”

  1. I’m impressed by the high level of journalism. I witnessed the election and I must say that it was initially marred by irregularities but normalcy returned and election was fair and peaceful.
