It was 7:45 Am, Monday, 20th September, 2021 having learnt he won’t be going to school because there is a forced sit at home imposed on the South East Nigeria by a faction of the IPOB, Arinze, my nine – year old son, in primary six, couldn’t contain his disappointment, he simply picked his books lay down on the bed and in frustration started reading through the books.
His brother, four – year old, Amamchukwu later joined him on the same bed as he read out from the book, Amamchukwu was reading after him. They have no choice, than to read anyhow, having missed school four times in the last six school days.
It was only the night before, Amamchukwu asked me “daddy will there be sit at home ? please i want to go to school tomorrow” I didn’t answer the question which jolted me when it came.
How does one start explaining this new phase of Kwashiorkor to these children? Being obvious that those who forced this sit at home on us, moments ago drove their children to world class schools across the globe. How do I start explaining to them that even with the “Academic Kwashiorkor” being unleashed on them, they will be competing from disadvantage position in the future Biafra with children of the IPOB leaders whom their education were never interrupted with imposed sit at home, there is a lot of explanation to be made.
Unfortunately, the Biafra land have been inadvertently infected with a new form of economic, social and academic Kwashiorkor by those who suppose to be fighting for her. The Biafra Child, even in the absence of General Yakubu Gowon’s orders is at the receiving end once again.
