The road is looking clearer for a southerner to emerge as the standard bearer of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2023 presidential election as the National Executive Council, NEC of the party has adopted the report of the zoning committee led by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.

The zoning committee had in their meeting, recommended that the National Chairman of the PDP should be produced by the Northern Region of the country.

The committee in their meeting which took place on 30th September at Fraser Hotel, Abuja resolved that the north and the south should swap current party positions.

“The current offices being held by officers in the Southern Zones of the country, namely, South West, South East and South South zones, should swap places with the offices currently in the northern zones of Nigeria, namely, North West, North East and North Central zones.

“That zoning of offices on PDP has traditionally been between the North and South of Nigeria,” part of the resolution of the Committee read.

However, at their NEC meeting today, the party has adopted the zoning committee recommendations in it’s entirety, a source at the meeting told JOURNALIST101

This means that while the North holds the National Chairmanship Position, the South will traditionally, produce the Presidential candidate of the party.
