Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday joined #EndSARS protesters in the State

The police in Enugu State, on Wednesday, swooped on participants at an #EndSARS one-year anniversary symposium.

Journalist101 gathered that the fierce looking police officers invaded the venue of the symposium; Centre for Memories on Awgu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu, around 9:00am, harassed and chased all the participants out of the venue and truncated the event from going on as planned.

They also reportedly seized and destroyed materials belonging to the participants and conveners.

The memorial symposium was put together by the Network of Civil Society Organisations in Enugu State to commemorate the reported killings of innocent Nigerians during the #EndSARS protest against police brutality in Nigeria.

Comrade Chukwudi Anachuna, the Secretary of the Coalition of CSOs in Enugu, raised the alarm in a message sent to Journalist101 that the police came in so many vehicles, invaded the venue of the event, scattering the items for the event.

“Our gathering has been disrupted by the police. Some of our materials were also taken away,” he said.

Journalist101 learnt that some people that came out to protest in some other parts of the State were arrested by the security operatives.

A representative of the Civil Society in Enugu State ENDSARS Panel on Police Brutality, Comrade Osmond Ugwu was expected to address the people also on the activities of the panel as regards to the petitions submitted to them on police brutality and extra-judicial killings since October 2020.

Journalist101 also gathered that all the arrested participants were later released following the intervention of the Civil Society members that insisted that the youths taken by the police committed no offence.
