DCP Abba Kyari

The report making the rounds that the embattled deputy commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari has been reinstated by the force is fake, JOURNALIST101 can report authoritatively.

Our investigation revealed that some people digged out a 4-year-old picture about DCP Kyari who was in charge of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Unit, IGP-IRT.

In the picture which is now going viral, Kyari, who was suspended after notorious Internet fraudster, Hushpuppi paid $20,600 into a bank account provided by Kyari, was seen being lifted up by some person’s in the force headquarters.

An FBI agent, Andrew Innocenti, had in a document titled, ‘Criminal Complaint By Telephone Or Other Reliable Electronic Means’ filed before the United States District Court for the Central District of California, alleged that a suspected fraudster, Abass Ramon, aka Hushpuppi, contracted Kyari to detain a co-conspirator, Chibuzo Vincent, for threatening to expose the alleged $1.1 million fraud committed against a Qatari businessman.

However, the picture attached to the post is from a post “My encounter with Nigeria’s crime buster, Abba Kyari who captured notorious Millionaire Kidnapper,” which was the account of Nigerian journalist, and ex president of the Guild of PROFESSIONAL BLOGGERS (GPBN) Chris Kehinde Nwandu

The image used in propagating the fake news

JOURNALIST101 contact a police source who said the report is fake and a calculated media campaign by some quarters that wants to test the waters.

“That report is fake, I can tell you authoritatively because there are procedures in recalling a suspended senior police officer and such process hasn’t been initiated.

“What is happening is a calculated testing of the waters by some people. We gathered that some persons were paid to carry out this propaganda and we don’t know to what end. Some media personnel are promoting that and I can’t tell you if it’s for or against the suspended DCP,” the source said.

The account of our source is in tandem with a twitter post by Sega Links, who has been in the forefront of Police reforms.

“Kindly ignore any news that suggests that Abba Kyari is back in office. It’s a dumb Kite aimed at testing the resolve of the people on the cleaning of the Augean stable. #ReformPoliceNG,” he twitted in response to the viral picture.
