Apex Igbo Sociocultural organisation; has reacted to the position of the statement by president Mohammadu Buhari that the plea for Nnamdi Kanu’s release won’t be adhered to.
President Buhari had on Wednesday, 5th of January in an interview aired on Channels Television said that he won’t interfere with the case of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, that he should defend himself in court.
President said there’s a possibility of political solution only when people behave themselves, “but you can’t go to a foreign country and continues sending a false information about the economy and security of the country thinking you will never account for it. Let him account for what he has been doing.
“But what I wonder is, when Kanu was safely in Europe abusing this administration and mentioning too many things, I never thought really he want to come and defend himself on accusations he made.
“So we are giving him an opportunity to defend himself in our system, not to be abusing us from Europe as if he wasn’t a Nigerian. Let him come down here with us and criticise us here. Nigerians know I don’t interfere with the media, so let him go and defend himself. Those who are saying we should release him, no we can’t releases him.”
In their reaction, Ohanaeze spokesman Chief Alex Ogbonnia, said, “Ohanaeze position is very clear and constant. We have looked at the whole scenario and we are convinced that Nnamdi Kanu’s case and IPOB can only be solved through a political solution.
“It is unfortunate that the Presidency or the president hasn’t appreciated the Ohanaeze position and by extension the Igbo position or the Igbo leadership position on this matter. But we are very confident that by time we will meet him early this year he will understand it more.”
