Senator Jim Nwobodo

Senator Jim Nwobodo, former governor of old Anambra State, has given a new dimension on which local government that should be supported to produce the next governor of Enugu State in 2023.

Senator Nwobodo during a press conference in his Amaechi Awkunanaw country home on Wednesday, said Nkanu East and not Isi-Uzo should be given the opportunity because the later is far better than the former in terms of development.

The elder statesman who lamented that Nkanu East is the least developed council area in Enugu East Senatorial Zone appealed to the people of Enugu state to allow them produce the next governor of the state on the grounds of equity and justice.

“I love Isi-Uzo more than some Isi-Uzo people and they know that, the first Senator in my government was from Isi-Uzo, the first road I built was the road that led to Isi-Uzo; Nkalagu. They had no school, I built two; one teachers training institute and College of Education.

“Thus, my position isn’t born out of sentiment but because Isi-Uzo is better off when compared to Nkanu East.

“Why must I not support the call for Nkanu East to produce the next governor of Enugu State? While other local council areas have before now, had a Senator, Governor and Reps Member, If you go there, you will see the difference. No road, no water, no federal presence in Nkanu East. Zoning it to them will help develop the council area,” he insisted.

Commenting on the issue of zoning political offices, the former Governor revealed that zoning has been in existence without any written documents and people should support the idea in the interest of peaceful coexistence.

“So my prayer is for God of justice and equity to see us through this process. I am a people friendly and people-oriented person, I have relationships across Nigeria and the world,” he said.
