The National Union of Benue State Students, NUBESS, has frowned at the attitude of the state government to the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Tertiary Institutions in Benue State (ASUTIBS).

ASUTIBS had embarked on an indefinite strike from 10th January. Since then, no academic activity has BEEN going on in any of the State owned Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

NUBESS in a statement signed by their president, Cadre Ajir Victor said this action “has rendered our students frustrated, idle and in suffering conditions. Our utmost concern is the Education of Benue State Students.

“As a union, we made our demands, our ultimatum expired and we are left with no choice than to activate the 3’C’s of Aluta Struggle. Even as the government is using security agencies to intimidate us, we will not succumb to any form of intimidation or pressure from any corner until the strike is suspended. Any form of intimidation that has been initiated is dead on arrival.

“We equally want to use this medium to pass a vote of no Confidence on the SSA to the governor on Students affairs, Mr. Anngu Orngu, who has been incapacitated and an enemy of the students struggles. Mr. Orngu has never impacted in the life of any Student, he has never address any issues bothering Students welfarism, rather he device means of intimidating and petitioning Benue State Students agitating for the rights of Students.

“Instances abound on how the said SSA has not been able to use his office to return the scholarship fraud money of 500 collected from Benue Students, yet there has not been any disbursement by Benue State government.

“We are not surprised or manically bewildered as history has it that Mr. Anngu Orngu, has never held any Comradeship position while a student, he was just the leader of his fellowship Association. We highly recommend that he should be replaced with immediate effect or redeployed to handle fellowship issues.

“We call on the government and relevant stakeholders to ensure the strike is suspended immediately. We shall continue to move in accordance with the 3’C’s of Aluta Struggle.
