The Chief Executive Officer of the EbonyLife Group; one of Africa’s leading media conglomerates, Mosunmola Abudu popularly known as Mo Abudu has spoken about how she once worked as a waiter at the age of 11 after the death of her father.

In a chat with popular journalist and media entrepreneur, Chude Jideonwo, the movie producer said she had to take up a job at a restaurant to make ends meet for her family, being the eldest daughter.

In her words, “I was born in England into a working-class family. I lost my father when I was 11. So, very early on, I’ve had to be strong. I worked all kinds of jobs. I worked as a waiter because my mom was left with not very much”.

“I was the first daughter, it was left for me to step up,” Abudu said. “The entire experience forced me to grow up fast”.

During the chat, Mo Abudu also spoke of her forthcoming work which will focus on the life of Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, who is facing criminal charges in the United States.

She spoke about the reasons why she was part of the team that secured the right to produce the movie.

She said “Somebody is going to tell that story. If it is not me, it would have been another international body because it was not only us that was bidding for it”.

Speaking further, she said “It is just important that the story is told by someone who understands the challenges he went through, the opportunity he must have had.

She maintained that the aim was not to justify what Hushpuppi did but focus on the lessons that should be learnt from his story, which could be good or bad.
