A Latin adage, Quos Deus vult perdere prius dementat – meaning “those whom God wishes to destroy he first drives mad” is replete in the current horrible tale of DCP Abba Kyari.
At first, the suspended celebrity police officer, Kyari, was fingered in a multi-million dollars fraud spearheaded by Ramon Abass, aka Hushpuppi, and the police authorities, instead shielded him from being extradited to the United States of America for prosecution.
Prior to his suspension, Kyari was Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT) commander. A super cop as he was generally regarded. A leader of crack squad of the Nigerian police force. The shining example of what the force personnel should represent. And indeed, He was, without doubt, toasted around the world like the jewel he was.
With his then Sterling profile, he became a member of International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Prior to his appointment as IGP-IRT, he had served at Lagos State Police Command as a unit Commander in one of the PMF base located in Lagos before he was promoted and transferred to serve as the Officer-In-Charge of the dis-banded (SARS).
For Kyari, Awards and honors came in succession as there was National Police Medal award (2013) given to him for his meritorious service to fatherland. And there were many others too numerous to mention. Notable among which was national honor of an outstanding crime fighter, with a standing ovation by the national assembly, given to him in june, 2020.
Kyari also received from the lawmakers the Award for Outstanding Service presented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, as a token of appreciation of his services to the nation.
Kyari was so powerful in his art of policing that he was nicknamed ‘Super Cop’ by his admirers and addressed as so. Suffice it to say that there was no operation he superintended without churning out results. And how he turned in these positivities at every now and then, remained a mystery to discerning minds.
Just recently and like many other missions assigned to the celebrity police officer by the force headquarters, Kyari was in the southeast for a well scripted mission, and it was while he was delivering on the mandate that the gods came calling on the police expert.
First, as a Nigerian police officer who until then, was a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Nigeria) who was on suspension and relieved from all police duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation into his alleged connection with Gucci King, popular alleged fraudster Ramon Abbas “Hushpuppi”, Kyari, who had been been out of sight, crawled out of his cocoons and appeared at a public function.
To make it more succinct, the Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police and former Commander of the Police Ịntelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, on 30th of January, 2022, made an appearance at the wedding Fatiha of Maina Alkali, the son of Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba in Maiduguri, Borno state.
And while the dust raised by his Cameo appearance at such high powered event was yet to die down, the news of Kyari, being declared wanted over Cocaine trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on, NDLEA sauntered.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s spokesperson, told reporters ‘that some law enforcement agents were helping and abetting drug trafficking in the country.’
While briefing the press, the spokesman described ‘how Abba Kyari was captured red-handed in the crime.’
‘Kyari, who was also seen wearing a face mask, was seen conversing in Hausa with an NDLEA officer in the footage uploaded. He gave over dollar bills to an anti-drug trafficking agency official at one point in the video.’
How are the mighty fallen! Abba has apparently fallen from grace to grass. And as such, Currently represents the worst example of the of Police force anywhere on Earth. His story would be told as one who came, who saw and was swept off by corruption.
Fellow Nigerians, at this juncture, I have no doubt whatsoever that the former DCP Abba Kyari, will pay the utmost prize as he faces prosecution without further interferences by the powers that had attempted to shield him from prosecution. I am pretty sure the veil has fallen of their faces and they would have covered their faces in shame.
As a man with too many dirty Baggages, let the law take its full course on DCP Abba Kyari.

Honestly I was his fan for i celebrate results and he has many but that two things that pull down any great man is either money or women for how he allow his achievement to be envelope by crime is sopposed to be fighting is cowardice
As much as i felt embarrassed by the action of this once glorified man, it confirmed my believe that many of our big men and so called brilliant security men are the one in this high profile crimes… they just release the one they wanted or arrest those that have fell out of their favour to us…who are we not to believe them.
However, I still have the doubt that this will not be used as a plot to make the man remain in the country and never extradite him to the U.S… I think the authority just gave the police 2 weeks to conclude the prio investigation and just last week our minister for justice said Kyari will face the consequence of breaking the law…. hope this is not a ploy to start a case that they will never finish in order to sweep the case under carpet as usual…. i fear this country o hence my doubt.
it will be good for us to make things right now so that it will serve as deterrent to others that believed in crime than hard work and honesty
