The Anambra State Police Command has ordered a manhunt to apprehend armed men that reportedly attacked vigilante operatives during a burial in a village in the state.

According to reports, the armed men stormed the venue of a burial at Ndingbu in Nnewi South Local Government Area and attacked the local vigilante that were providing security at the funeral.

Confirming the ugly development, the command’s spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu said the miscreants  also attacked another vigilante office, kidnapped one and set their operation vehicle ablaze.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Echeng Echeng has ordered manhunt on armed men who allegedly attacked vigilante operatives in a burial at Ndingbu village, Nnewi. The Operatives comprising of Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorist unit, Special forces and others are already in the area and normalcy has been restored while operation are still going on

“Although no notification was given to the Police about the planned burial but information reveals that the Vigilante groups where invited. Further details received that the miscreants started shooting sporadically in attempt to disarm the vigilante operatives

“In another development, the hoodlums also attacked, Utuh Viligante office. abducted one of the staffs and set the Vigilante Operation vehicle on fire.

“The Command while assuring that the police and other security agents are firm in providing security services in the state also urge residents of the area to help Police with information that will aid the ongoing operation.”
