The Ebonyi state House of Assembly has on Tuesday declared the seat of three of its members vacant.

The three lawmakers are Ali Okechukwu (Ishielu North); Franca Okpo Abakaliki North) and Victor Aleke (Ebonyi West), all under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to the House, the decision was taken following a letter of resignation alleged to have been written by the three lawmakers.

During plenary, Only the Fifteen All Progressive Party (APC) lawmakers were present as none of the PDP members were around during the sitting.

The Speaker Francis Nwifuru who read the letters on the floor of house declared the seats vacant and asked the clerk of the house to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, informing them of the development and the need to conduct a fresh election in the concerned constituencies.

Recall that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had last week sacked the governor of the state and his Deputy, alongside15 members of the House, for defecting from the PDP to the APC.
