Umar Musa Muri, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in-charge of Zone 13 (covering Enugu and Anambra) has assured the residents of Enugu State of the zone’s determination to wipe out criminal elements in the coal city.

AIG Umar gave the assurance on Thursday while speaking with newsmen on the sideline during his one-day familiarisation and confidence building tour to the Enugu State Command.

The Police Chief while acknowledging the improved security situation in the state in recent months said the visit is important as it will enable him bring the men of the command on the same page with him with a bid to upgrading the security atmosphere in the entire south east.

Umar also said they will move around and talk to the stakeholders so they can assist them with the needed information to curb the menace of insecurity and assured them of utmost confidentiality.

“We will also talk to the stakeholders so they can assist us with vital information and I’m assuring them that any information given to us will be treated with absolute confidentiality.”

On the failed strike action by the officers of the Nigeria Police Force, AIG Umar said “there’s nothing like a failed strike because it’s a Rumour orchestrated by the social media and the force is on top of the situation.”

He also said that IGP Usman Baba is very much interested in the welfare of the men of the Nigeria Police.

The AIG stressed that tireless efforts are being put in place to ensure that all forms of criminality is being tackled and the preparators having their day in court. He went on to assure of maximum security before, during and after the Easter celebration.

In his address, the Commissioner of Police Enugu State, CP Abubakar Lawal disclosed that the Command since he assumed duty in August, has arrested 207 criminal suspects.

He thanked the “Government of Enugu State, under the able leadership of His Excellency, Rt.Hon. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who has been supporting the Command in its quest to frontally tackle existing and emerging acts of crime and criminality. Thus, I sincerely use this medium to immensely thank, appreciate and encourage him to do more.

“Sir, I also take into particular recognition the pragmatic and visionary leadership acumen, as well as the moral and material support the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, psc (+), NPM, fd, has been giving to the Command and the Nigeria Police Force in general. Accordingly, I must sincerely thank the IGP and pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) will continue to keep him in good health and grant him the wisdom he requires to further take the entire Force to greater heights.

“I must also sincerely thank you Sir, for the uncommon leadership, guidance and supervisory prowess you have shown in overseeing the affairs of the entire Zone. This has no doubt, brought about the relative peace and security enjoyed in Enugu State.”
