A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed a new date for judgment on the defection suit against Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State.

Justice Taiwo Oladipupo Taiwo fixed April 7th as the new date to enable him look into the implications of a court of Appeal fresh judgment on the defection.

A Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu had last week held that the defection did not constitute any known offence.

The court maintained thaf Ayade’s Defection was in his constitutional rights of freedom of association as enshrined under Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution.

Recall that Justice Taiwa had fixed today, (Wednesday) for the Judgement but however shifted it for April 7th to enable him consider the implications of the appeal court’s Judgement.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is praying the court to sack both Ayade and his deputy, contending that the duo, having abandoned the political party that sponsored their re-election, ought to vacate their respective offices.
