There was confusion at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, following the theft of a sum of $75,000 valued at N44, 250, 000 at the prevailing black market rate of 580 naira per dollar.

This happened after a crowd of people struggled to get entrance to the party premises.

According to Punch, party sources said the missing $75,000 was not related to the money made from the sale of nominations.

“It’s actually $75,000. You know there was a struggle at the gate when aspirants and supporters were trying to get in,” the paper quoted a source as saying.

“When the parcel of money dropped, it went missing in a flash. By the time security operatives were alerted, the thief had vanished with the envelope.”

The paper added that the canopy under which the sale of forms took place was suddenly dismantled without explanation.

The party resorted to canopies due to ongoing renovation works in main building of the secretariat.

Previously, the secretariat was a hub of activity, with aspirants flocking in to get forms for different electoral seats.

Hundreds of supporters lined the outside of Buhari House, cheering on their particular hopefuls as they entered.

Wednesday’s sale of forms signalled that the roughly two-week exercise may not hold on party grounds.
