Activist and Convener of the Concerned Nigerians Group, Deji Adeyanju has alleged that “Yorubas are insincere as regards 2023 zoning arrangement”.

The Yorubas are currently agitating for the zoning of the presidency to the southern part of Nigeria without being specific in which part of the south it should be zoned to.

The human rights activist who has been canvassing for the next president of Nigeria to come from South east said its better for the next president to come from the southern part of Nigeria than for the southwest to have it.

Currently, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo have declared interest to run for president while former Governor of Ogun State, Amosun and current Governor of Ekiti State are rumoured to be interested in becoming Nigeria’s number one man.

Deji, in his Facebook post on Tuesday, said: “You can’t be demanding for equity with your hands and legs in inequality.

“Yorubas are insincere as regards 2023 zoning arrangement. They are not demanding for equity in the interest of justice but for selfish reasons.

“It’s better for the North to keep power than for Yorubas to get it.”

The Yorubas would have completed 16 years in the the presidency by 2023 since the return of democracy in 1999. Obasanjo was president for 8 years (1999-2007) and Osinbajo will be completing 8 years by 2023.

The South East is the only zone in the South that’s yet to taste the presidency in the new democratic dispensation. Prominent Igbos have declared for president in both APC and the PDP.
