Armed security operatives were on thursday morning, seen blocking the entrance of the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia located at Finbars Road Umuahia.

The stern-looking police officers prevented staff and visitors from accessing the premises.

When asked why they are blocking the gate, one of the operatives simply replied, “it’s an order from above”.

The state’s Publicity Secretary of PDP, Hon. Fabian Nwankwo, when contacted said there was no cause for alarm.

According to Nwankwo, the party is observing a day of rest as party official and workers were asked to stay at home and rest due to accumulates stress of the past weeks of activities.

He added that activities will fully resume at the secretariat the following day.

There have been calls since Tuesday for the resignation of the party chairman in the state, Dr Asiforo Okere, due to the disagreements among party members over the three-man delegates congress.

Dr Asiforo Okere-led State leadership of the party was accused of compromise and plots to manipulate the process in favour of a certain anointed governorship aspirant.
