Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku

A human rights activist and author, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, has condemned the killing and burning of Ms. Deborah Shahu, a female Christian student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State.

It was gathered that a Christian female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State, Deborah Shahu, was this morning beaten and burnt to death over alleged religious blasphemy in the school.

According to the source, the deceased was having an argument with some of her schoolmates over their ongoing examination and when she was asked how she managed to pass her exams, she said it was Jesus Christ. When she was asked to withdraw the statement and apologise which she refused, she was beaten to death and burnt thereafter.

Reacting, Comrade Paul wrote:

“The gruesome killing and burning alive of a female Christian student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State by young Islamic students who have been unfortunately indoctrinated in the hall of Islamic extremism and bloody fundamentalism on campuses is highly condemnable and unacceptable.

“Ms. Deborah’s death by these murderous uninformed Islamic students must not be swept away like others. Enough is enough on religious intolerance in this country. This is the time to appropriately forestall the ruthlessness
of the murderous Islamic fundamentalism in Nigeria. Our law enforcement agencies must do the needful.

“Killing of fellow human beings on whatsoever reason is against our constitution on right to life and human dignity. It is also against the universal declaration on human and peoples rights including international laws, conventions and treaties.

“Murdering people to avenge your god is barbaric and immoral. Any religon that teaches otherwise is evil, clueless, bloodthirsty and unhinged.

“I therefore urge the executive governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal and the Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar, to actively condemn the act by arresting and publicly prosecute the perpetrators to serve a lesson to other Islamic killer extremists”.
