The Independent National Electoral Commission will later today be meeting with leaders of the 18 registered political parties.

The meeting which will be held under the auspices of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, is scheduled to take place by 3pm at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

This is coming as two top political parties in the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be having their primaries during the weekend.

As at the time of this report, it is not clear what will be discussed in the meeting but reports says its inline with the demand of parties seeking to review the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 general election.

Political parties under the aegis of IPAC and political actors had called on INEC to extend the deadline for the primaries.

Speaking against it, civil society organisations and prominent Nigerians, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and a former chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, warned the commission against yielding to the demands of the political parties.

Recall that the electoral umpire had fixed April 4 to June 3 for the election of flag bearers of all political parties for the 2023 elections.
